Super Scheduler is a full-featured task scheduler with GUI Workflow management. Super Scheduler is part of Acelet-Scheduler. It comes with Open Source Edition and Enterprise Edition. Super Scheduler is a better alternative for other scheduler, such as AutoSys for workload automation. Super Scheduler works for Homogeneous or heterogeneous network, as long as Java is available. Super Scheduler is very user friendly, Programming is not required. No training is necessary. It works out the box.

Super Scheduler is a full-featured task scheduler for all system and application job scheduling. Super Scheduler is the twin software of Super Watchdog, which is event-action task scheduler for event monitoring. Super Scheduler is entirely written in Java. It is platform neutral.

SuperScheduler (one word name) is the program name of Super Scheduler.

Main features of Super Scheduler

• It fully supports distributed computing environment. You can schedule and run tasks on any machine in the network at any time, either on application server machines or on client machines. Many instances of Super Scheduler can run at the same time while a task will run once and only once at the scheduled time. All instances of Super Scheduler share up-to-date information automatically and promptly (default is two seconds). 
• It fails-over. If any instance of Super Scheduler is down or busy, others will pick up the tasks.
• It is scalable. if one instance of Super Scheduler is too busy, you can always add another machine to run another instance of Super Scheduler. All instances of Super Scheduler load-balance themselves in a natural way.
• It provides Doer, Talker and Daemon modes, allowing tasks be fully managed and monitored anywhere in the world.
• It supports many types jobs: Email, FTP, Java, and Operating System.
• It supports composite jobs (workflow job, Sequence job and Retry job) as task chains, for set up job dependencies.
• It supports Master-Slave remote execution. Similar to scheduler server with client-server job scheduling.
• It detects missed tasks and sends alarm email messages.
• It has a built-in GUI tool for scheduling and monitoring tasks. Monitoring windows refresh themselves automatically and promptly. It allows you to suspend tasks, reactive tasks and run tasks immediately.
• It allows you to visually set Workflow job.
• It logs major task related events. It provides history facilities.
• It supports a running period for all tasks.
• A tasks runs on a desired machine if specified.
• All tasks can be programmatically controlled by simple Java API or any other program (like C/C++). 
• It provides very flexible schedule terms: minutely, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, on specific week days and at specified times.
• It provides very comprehensive holiday/weekend policies and facilities providing choices of Next business day, Previous business day and Skip. Any change to holidays will take effect automatically and promptly. 
• It provides a lightweight daemon for non graphic environment.
• It provides a Role Based Entitlement management.

Super Scheduler is thread safe and network safe. Different instances of Super Scheduler will not corrupt each other. If two users edit the same task at the same time, either in the same office or on the other side of the world, only one can be successful. After one of them saves data into database, the other user's data is stale. If other user tries to save stale data he or she will get an error.

Document

The document is copied from Acelet-Scheduler EE which is with enterprise features. The core engine of Acelet-Scheduler and Acelet-Scheduler-EE are the same. So the document is useful. But it contains some advanced features which are do not needed. It would be nice if these parts of document be removed. The document needs to be improved. Any contribution is welcome.

Super Scheduler EE (Enterprise Edition) is a full-featured task scheduler supporting J2EE and Java EE job scheduling. When it is scheduled for J2EE and Java EE jobs, it runs as a client of your J2EE and Java EE application server. It runs in its own JVM and never interferes the state of your J2EE, Java EE server. Super Scheduler EE is also an SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) tool by supporting Webservice job scheduling.

Database requirement

Super Scheduler uses database. Super Scheduler can work with any database which:

• is ANSI SQL 92 entry level compliant.
• a JDBC driver is available.
• supports BLOB data type and BLOB can be read/write using JDBC's getBinaryStream( ) / setBlob( ) methods. Please contact us if your database driver does not support these methods.

Compare to Windows task manager

• Windows task manager does not have a comprehensive GUI monitor.
• Windows task manager supports Operating System task and jobs only. SuperScheduler support many types of tasks and jobs.
• Windows task manager does not support adjusted holiday schedule.
• Windows task manager does not support distributed computing environment: task runs for the local machine only. No fail-over. Not scalable.
• Windows task manager does not provide major events.
• Windows task manager can run on Microsoft Windows only. SuperScheduler can run on any Operation Systems which supports Java, such as Linux, Solaris and Windows.

Compare to AutoSys workload automation

• AutoSys is an old generation job scheduler.
• AutoSys needs a "server". There is no "server" for SuperScheduler. All instances of SuperScheduler have both server and client ability.
• AutoSys is too complicated. Many features/commands may have unintended consequences. SuperScheduler is very easy to use, no training needed.
• AutoSys does not have a comprehensive GUI monitor.
• AutoSys supports Operating System task and jobs only. SuperScheduler support many types of tasks and jobs.
• AutoSys does not support adjusted holiday schedule.
• AutoSys does not support distributed computing environment: task runs for the specified machine only. Limited fail-over and scalable.
• AutoSys does not provide major events.
• AotoSys is difficult to use and requires significant training.
